HRV Installations
Category: Building Codes
Issue/Problem : HRV Installations - Ontario
Analysis:
- Clarification of the simplified or return-return connection of the supply and exhaust duct connections to the furnace air plenum.
Code:
- Installation must meet the requirements of all local codes. In Ontario, the code requirements are that the exhaust air connection must be no less than 1 metre upstream of the supply air connection. There is no specific requirement for installation of the supply air connection.
Recommendation:
- Recommendations from vanEE for their HRV’s are that the exhaust air connection must be no less than 1 meter upstream of the supply air connection (the same as the Ontario Building Code) and that the supply air connection be no less than 1 meter upstream of the “drop” to the furnace or air handler plenum. The intent is to ensure good mixing of air supply with the return air before it reaches the blower.
